Groningen

The city of Groningen, with its 175.000 inhabitants is one of the larger cities in The Netherlands. With regard to trade, industry and culture, Groningen is the most prominent city in the northern part of our country. The many traditional and cultural aspects of the 950 year old city find their origin in the fact that Groningen has been a university town for over 400 years.

 

Beautiful beaches, historic towns and villages, exciting museums and cozy restaurants. Just a few of the amenities the Northern Province of Groningen has to offer you. There are canals and lakes throughout the province, as well as miles of walking and cycling paths, flowering bulb fields in the spring and traditional windmills that decorate the picturesque countryside.

Travel to Groningen

Groningen is situated in the north of the Netherlands. The city is easily accessible form all parts of Europe.

By air

The city airport, Groningen Airport Eelde, has direct scheduled services from and to Aberdeen. Check www.bmi.com for more information. Aberdeen has also connections with: Birmingham, Londen Gatwick, Londen Heathrow and New Castle.

Train connections link the city with Schiphol International Airport every 30 minutes. Travel time by train is approximately 2,5 hours.

 

By train

The main railway station in Groningen is at 20 minutes walking distance from the UMCG. For timetables visit www.ns.nl. Arriving at the Central Station in Groningen, several busses will take you to the city center. Bus 8 and 22 will take you directly tot the University Medical Center Groningen. Both the city center (5 min) and the University Medical Center (10 min) are at walking distance from the Central Station.

By car
